This program is in response to the overwhelming demand for more latte art instruction and practice. Latte art is the perfect place to start for nearly all beginners, especially anyone working to become a barista or startup their own coffee business. Latte art skills are becoming the most defining example of a barista’s capability and with a strong foundation in latte art, a student also naturally learns to care about espresso and the overall quality of coffee.
With 10 hours of practice, you should expect to feel confident in your ability to steam milk to the proper consistency and to create all of the milk-based drinks on a menu: macchiato, cortado, cappuccino and latte.
Day 1: 5 hours
10am-12:40pm: Milk steaming and intro to latte art. Learn all of the 3 basic designs: heart, tulip, and rosetta. Espresso basics: how to make espresso for your drinks.
1:00pm-2:30pm: Lattes and cappuccinos. Learn how to make lattes and cappuccinos consistently. Intermediate espresso skills: how to adjust espresso by using grind, dose, and volume.
2:30pm-3:00pm: Review of the day and introduction to macchiato and cortado.
Day 2: 5 hours
10:00am-10:45am: Espresso challenge: set up the espresso machine at the beginning of class as a group and find an acceptable extraction to use throughout the class.
10:45am-12:40pm: Macchiatos and cortados. Apply milk steaming principles and latte art designs to small drinks.
1:00pm-2:00pm: Review all skills learned to this point and perfect the skill of steaming small pitchers of milk and pouring small drinks.
2:00pm-3:00pm: Latte art challenge: create all of the drinks with proper milk texture and latte art design.
