This program is in response to the overwhelming demand for more latte art instruction and practice. Latte art is the perfect place to start for nearly all beginners, especially anyone working to become a barista or startup their own coffee business. Latte art skills are becoming the most defining example of a barista’s capability and with a strong foundation in latte art, a student also naturally learns to care about espresso and the overall quality of coffee.
With 10 hours of practice, you should expect to feel more confident in your ability to steam milk to the proper consistency and to create many of the milk-based drinks on a menu such as macchiato, cortado, cappuccino and latte.
And you will receive a certificate of completion at the end!
Day 1: 5 hours
10am-12:40pm: Espresso and barista basics followed by exercises to learn 3 basic designs: heart, tulip, and rosetta. After having a chance to try pouring each design and right before break, you'll try milk steaming on your own.
1:00pm-2:30pm: This is where the challenge begins! Begin milk steaming on your own. Combine milk steaming with latte art pours.
2:30pm-3:00pm: Review of the day and introduction to steaming and pouring in smaller sizes.
Day 2: 5 hours
10:00am-10:45am: Espresso challenge: set up the espresso machine at the beginning of class as a group and find an acceptable extraction to use throughout the class.
10:45am-12:40pm: Cappuccinos, macchiatos and cortados. Apply milk steaming principles and latte art designs to smaller drinks.
1:00pm-2:00pm: Review all skills learned to this point and each student will choose one design and size they would like to focus on to try to perfect.
2:00pm-3:00pm: Latte art challenge: your fellow students will "order" several drinks for you to practice proper milk texture and latte art design.
Latte art is a difficult skill to learn and requires practice like most other skills that are worth learning! After attending this workshop, it is possible to come back to our other classes for free by being a teacher's assistant! Please email us for more information if this is of interest to you.
